


Mickey Mantle, quite possibly the biggest of big game players.
Won 3 MVP's. Played in 16 All-Star games. Played for 12 pennant winners and was a 7 time World Series Champ.
Holds the record for most home runs (18), RBIs (40), runs (42), walks (43), extra-base hits (26), and total bases (123) in WORLD SERIES games.
Hit 3 home runs in the '64 series against the Cardinals including a walk-off on Oct. 10, 1964.
1956 was one of his greatest seasons. Hit for the Major League Triple crown, the last to lead in all three categories for both leagues. 353 Ave, 52 HR, and 130 RBI. Led to his first of 3 MVP's.

One of the "M & M" boys, Maris and Mantle, the Mick was something special. I grew up hating the dreaded Yanks. One of my earliest baseball memories was of Bill Mazeroski hitting his famous World Series winning home run in 1960, defeating NY. I was on the playground of St. John's elementary school listening to the game on a transistor radio during recess. Several of us began running and yelling the Pirates beat the Yanks! I was 9.
